We are looking for an engaged Policy Manager in Asia Pacific Region
who brings solid expertise and a passion for FSC’s mission, to work
with us in a multinational environment.
Policy Manager in Asia Pacific Region (m-f-d)
The Role and what we are looking for in you
- You support the FSC standards setting and their subsequent roll
out implementation in the Asia-Pacific region, reporting to the
FSC Asia-Pacific Regional Director and coordinating with the FSC
Performance and Standards Unit at FSC International.
- You further act as coordinator for various international program
activities in Asia-Pacific and represent the interests of the FSC
Performance and Standards Unit in the region.
- You can work fluently across cultures and countries in the region,
and with a diverse set of stakeholders and interest groups. You
support and guide FSC network partners, country representatives
and standard developers to achieve high-quality outputs and improved
efficiency of relevant standard setting processes. You see yourself
as a resource person and problem solver for others. You look for
pragmatic solutions that support colleagues across the regional
network in their various policy endeavors.
- You go the extra mile to include others in your work and you
build a strong personal internal network across hierarchies and
functions.
Main Roles and Responsibilities
- Provide process and content advice (including trainings) to
those developing FSC Risk Assessments and Forest Stewardship Standards
as needed and agreed with FSC IC, referred further as “country requirements”.
- Perform thorough content assessment of selected, assigned country
requirements against international criteria for rigor and the level
of allowed country adaptation.
- Monitor the status of the assigned country requirements processes
in the region and provide report FSC IC and FSC APAC team.
- Analyze and facilitate enquiries from stakeholders related to
Chain of Custody and Controlled Wood.
- Provide applicable support for ongoing revisions of FSC international
requirements.
- Maintain close communication with stakeholders in the region
to communicate changes in FSC normative requirements.
- Guide Network Partners, Country Representatives, Standard Developers,
and Stakeholders on matters related to policy and standards and
FSC Certifications, including developing draft interpretation on
approved country requirements.
- Participate in FSC internal competence and accreditation program.
- Participate in regional public events to brand FSC system.
- Other duties assigned by the APAC regional Director and coordinated
with Country Requirements Programme in Performance and Standards
Unit, FSC International.
- Make sure your activities are aligned with the other Policy
Manager in APAC and Regional Manager (Latin America and Africa).
- Act as a backup for the other APAC Policy Manager when and where
required.
Qualification, Experience and Skills
Education and Training:
- Master’s degree in Forestry, Environmental Science, Wood Sciences,
Ecology, Natural Resource Management, or relevant disciplines.
Working Experience, Style and Skills:
- At least 5 years of professional experience in one or more of
the following areas: Forest Management, Forest Certification, Natural
Resource Management, Standard Development.
- Experience in Chain of Custody area is a plus.
- Good time management skills: Ability to perform well while handling
multiple simultaneously.
- Service and Solution oriented attitude to work.
- Proven successful project management experience.
- A very strong sense for diligence and accuracy.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proactiveness and high level of engagement.
- Administration skills.
Languages:
- Fluency in English (spoken and written).
- Knowledge of one or more Asian languages is a plus.
Computer Skills:
- Good skills in the use of/experience with standard software
packages (MS Office).
Communication Skills:
- Exemplary verbal and written communication skills that contribute
to cohesive team efforts and decision-making processes.
- Ability to explain complex topics in a plain language to non-technical
audience.
- Ability to work collaboratively and in cooperation with diverse
stakeholders from a multitude of cultural backgrounds on sensitive
issues, while maintaining balance and the solid aptitude to manage
and respond to divergent views.
- Active-listening skills.
- Conflict management skills.
- Ability to facilitate interactive discussions.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive interpersonal relations.
Others:
- Experience in working in a multi-cultural, multi-lingual, global
team.
- Experience in working in / with an NGO or Non-Profit Organization.
- Commitment to FSC’s mission and values.
- Demonstrated cultural awareness and sensitivity to the diversity
of values, views, and approaches to issues relevant to the FSC program
by stakeholders around the world.
- General awareness about FSC and its system (CoC knowledge is
a very strong plus).
- Ability to represent FSC through his/her work with exemplary
personal and professional authority and conduct.
- Experience in managing and delivering training.
Terms and Conditions
- Location: Asia Pacific, with the possibility to travel easily.
- Working Hours: Full time - 40 hours per week.
- Duration of Employment: Temporary contract with the possibility
to renew every 2 years.
- Type of contract: Service and License agreement.
- Starting Date: As soon as possible.
- Travel: Regular travel within Asia Pacific and occasionally
to Germany.
